5 cyber fraudsters arrested in UP for scamming retiree in Hyderabad of Rs 1.6 crore

Five cyber fraudsters from Uttar Pradesh, who duped the city's pensioners of Rs 1.6 billion, were arrested from Ghaziabad on Thursday and brought to Hyderabad on a transit warrant.

Accused Mursheed Ansari (32), Vikas Singh (28), Tarun Sharma (35), Manish Tanger (34) and Lalith Kumar (27) posed as insurance agents and duped a 72-year-old man with the promise of huge according to Rachakonda cyber crime sleuths have a return of 18 -22% by investing in your policies.

"Initially, the victim invested about 15 million crowns in the names of 12 members of his family. The fraudsters on WhatsApp showed photos of fake checks issued in his name as evidence of high returns. Between 2016 and 2022, the victim deposited 1.6 million in the bank accounts they mentioned. He even sold some property to invest it.

Finally, the family members suspected foul play and approached us in December last year," said cyber crime inspector B Raju. Cops seized seven mobile phones, 15 SIM cards, a laptop, Rs 1.5 lakh cash, eight debit cards from their possession and four bank passbooks.
