At least five people were killed and six others critically injured after a speeding bus collided head-on with a passenger car on the Bhind–Gwalior NH-719 in Madhya Pradesh in the early hours of February 20. The accident occurred near a Punjabi dhaba in Chhimka under the Gohad Chauraha police station limits around 2:30 am, triggering chaos at the scene.
According to police, the bus was returning to Gwalior after dropping off wedding guests in Bhind when it rammed into an Eco car coming from the opposite direction. Four occupants of the car died on the spot, while seven others were seriously injured in the impact. One of the injured later succumbed to injuries during treatment, taking the death toll to five.
The collision was so severe that the car was completely mangled, trapping passengers inside. Police teams rushed to the spot and had to make strenuous efforts to extricate the victims from the wreckage before shifting them to hospital. The injured were later referred to Gwalior for advanced treatment.
Two of the deceased have been identified as Jagdish Bhadauria and Atul Shivhare. Authorities are working to establish the identities of the remaining three victims to inform their families. The injured include Ketu Sharma (10), Santosh Sharma (37), Pradeep Prajapati (32), Mewaram Bhadauria (61), Ramlakhan (59), Meera, and Sukhveer Sharma (50).
Police have initiated further investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash. The tragic incident has cast a pall over the region, with disturbing visuals from the accident site highlighting the severity of the impact.
