50 people fall ill after drinking municipality water in Murshidabad, 1 woman dies

A sensational and tragic incident has occurred in the Kamat area of Ward Number 11 in Dhulian Municipality, Murshidabad, where approximately 50 people have fallen ill after allegedly consuming water supplied by the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department. The crisis escalated on Monday morning with the reported death of one woman, identified as Ayesha Bibi, whose family claims she succumbed due to the contaminated water. The mass sickness and subsequent death have plunged the entire area into panic, forcing the local administration to take emergency measures.

The health crisis reportedly began last Thursday night. Local residents recount that following the water supply that evening, people began falling ill one after another, presenting symptoms of sickness related to water consumption. The affected individuals were quickly rushed to Anupnagar Hospital and Jangipur Sub-district Hospital for treatment. In response to the growing panic and to prevent further illness, the Dhulian Municipality issued an urgent public announcement via microphone, instructing residents to stop drinking the municipality's water immediately.

Faced with increasing pressure from the situation, the Dhulian Municipality moved to set up a free medical camp in Ward Number 11. The Ward Councilor confirmed the action, stating, "We have already set up a medical team. They have started working. Those affected by this disease have been sent to the hospital." Meanwhile, Dhulian Municipality Chairman Inzamamul Haque confirmed that water samples have been collected from the affected area and dispatched to a laboratory in Jadavpur for urgent testing to determine the nature and source of the contamination. The remaining sick individuals are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
