No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A total of 56 young girls were rescued on Monday night from the Capital Express train at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) railway station during a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF). The train was headed to Patna, and the girls were reportedly told they would be taken to Bengaluru for jobs in an “iPhone company.” All the girls were from Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and the Dooars region.
None of the rescued girls had valid tickets. Instead, coach and berth numbers were stamped on their hands, which raised suspicion during a routine check around 9 PM. Officers noticed a large group of young women gathered in one coach and began questioning them. Their answers reportedly contained multiple contradictions. Based on this, further inquiry was conducted on the platform itself.
The girls stated that they were being accompanied by Jitendra Paswan, a resident of Kolkata, and Chandrika, a woman from Siliguri. Both individuals were detained at the station for questioning. Authorities have initiated an investigation to verify the purpose of the journey, the authenticity of the job offers, and whether any laws were violated in the process.
