An avalanche struck Sikkim's Nathula border area on Tuesday, leaving at least six tourists dead and several others injured. The incident occurred around 12:20 pm and has trapped over 150 people, including tourists, who were visiting the famous tourist spot that sees a huge influx of visitors.

According to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), 22 tourists have been rescued so far after the avalanche at the 14th mile on Jawaharlal Nehru Road that connects Gangtok with Nathula. The BRO further stated that over 350 stranded tourists and 80 vehicles were rescued after snow clearance from the road.

Relief teams have been deployed to the site and rescue operations are underway. The BRO is working tirelessly to clear the roads and assist in the rescue efforts.

The avalanche has caused widespread concern among the authorities and locals in the region. The incident highlights the dangers of avalanches and the need for caution, especially in the mountainous regions that are susceptible to such disasters. The authorities have urged people to take necessary precautions and be vigilant while traveling to hilly areas.
