6 dead, 8 injured in massive fire at fireworks unit in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari

A massive fire broke out at a fireworks factory in Andhra Pradesh’s East Godavari district on Wednesday, killing six workers and injuring eight others. The incident occurred at the Lakshmi Ganapathi Fireworks unit in Komaripalem village under Rayavaram mandal while workers were manufacturing firecrackers. The blaze spread rapidly due to the presence of highly inflammable chemicals, trapping several workers inside.

Local residents alerted authorities after thick smoke was seen billowing from the unit. Fire tenders rushed to the spot, but officials said the intensity of the fire made rescue operations extremely challenging. Police, revenue officials, and emergency teams have been deployed at the site to oversee rescue and relief operations. The injured have been admitted to Rajahmundry Government Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest that inadequate safety measures or improper handling of chemicals may have triggered the explosion. Police have registered a case and initiated an inquiry into the incident.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and reviewed the situation with local authorities. In a post on X, he said, “The loss of several lives in this tragic accident has caused immense grief. I have directed officials to visit the site personally, ensure relief for affected families, and provide the best medical aid to the injured.”
