6 single-shot firearms and 14 cartridges recovered in Rajabazar during Kolkata STF raid

In a major security development ahead of elections, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police recovered a cache of illegal firearms near the Rajabazar Science College bus stand in central Kolkata. The seizure has raised serious concerns over the movement of weapons in densely populated areas during the election period.

Acting on specific intelligence inputs, STF personnel detained a suspect in the Rajabazar area after noticing suspicious movement during daytime surveillance. Upon searching his belongings, officers recovered six single-shot firearms along with 14 rounds of ammunition, leading to his immediate arrest and seizure of the weapons.

Preliminary investigation is underway to determine the source of the firearms and the intended destination. Police are probing whether the accused is linked to a larger arms trafficking network operating within or outside the state, especially in the context of heightened election security arrangements.

Authorities have intensified surveillance across central Kolkata following the incident, as similar operations in recent days have also led to significant cash recoveries in different parts of the city. The Rajabazar seizure has further increased security concerns, prompting deeper investigation into possible organised illegal supply chains.
