A long-running illicit liquor operation was uncovered behind the "Ma Tara" family restaurant in Pitpur, Panskura, East Medinipur, leading to the arrest of seven people, including the restaurant owner. The illegal business reportedly had been functioning for a considerable period without detection.
Acting on a tip-off, a 14-member police team from the East Medinipur District Superintendent of Police office conducted a raid on Tuesday, which lasted from 3 p.m. to around midnight. During the nine-hour operation, eight people—four girls and four boys—were apprehended.
In addition to the arrests, three hotel rooms linked to the illegal business were sealed. The accused were later produced in the Tamluk court after being held at the Panskura police station for questioning.
Police sources confirmed that further investigation is underway to identify other individuals connected to the illicit liquor network and prevent similar operations in the area.
