The incident occurred around 2:00 am on the Dehradun-Nainital National Highway near Dhampur, when a speeding Hyundai Creta car collided with a tempo from behind. The car was attempting to overtake another vehicle in dense fog when it struck the tempo, causing the tempo to lose control and crash into an electric pole. Six of the seven passengers in the tempo died on the spot, while the driver, Ajab Singh, succumbed to his injuries during transport to the hospital.
The victims were members of a family returning to their home in Tibdi, Dhampur, after attending a wedding in Jharkhand. The collision occurred when the car, driven by Aman (son of Imran), was overtaking another vehicle in the foggy conditions of the highway. The police have registered a case against the driver of the car, Aman, who has been detained for further questioning. The vehicle involved in the accident has been seized by the authorities. The investigation is ongoing, with a focus on determining whether overspeeding or negligence on the part of the car driver contributed to the crash. The police are also looking into the weather conditions and road factors, such as fog, that might have played a role in the incident.
The bodies of the deceased have been sent for postmortem, and the investigation continues. The local police, along with emergency services, arrived at the scene shortly after the incident.
