HC refuses to order Sonam Wangchuk's discharge, says Govt intervention 'not arbitrary'
Guwahati Police seized heroin worth nearly ₹8 crore and arrested two drug peddlers during a late-night operation in Amingaon, a suburb of the city. The Special Task Force (STF) intercepted a red Hyundai i10, registered in Manipur, based on a confidential input.
On searching the vehicle, 74 soap boxes filled with heroin were recovered from hidden compartments in the door panels and boot. The consignment, weighing 910 grams, was being transported from Churachandpur in Manipur to lower Assam.
The arrested men, identified as 33-year-old Gogou Suantak and 39-year-old Seilun Vaiphei, both from Churachandpur, are being interrogated to trace the source of the narcotics and the intended distribution network within Assam. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma posted images of the seized car and drugs on X, reaffirming that “Operation Assam Against Drugs continues in full force.”
This seizure is the latest in Assam’s intensified crackdown on narcotics. In recent weeks, police seized heroin and morphine in Barpeta, Cachar, and Six Mile, highlighting the state’s ongoing battle against drug cartels that operate across borders and increasingly use drones to transport contraband.
