Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
Kolkata Police have arrested another accused in connection with the assault on policemen during the Nabanna campaign on August 9. The accused, identified as Manas Chandra Saha of Naihati, was traced and caught using CCTV footage. He joins BJP worker Chandan Gupta, who was arrested earlier in the same case.
According to police, the investigation revealed that several participants in the rally had gathered bricks and stones beforehand with the intent to attack law enforcement. Briefings had informed participants that demonstrations could only take place at Santragachhi or Rani-Rashmoni Avenue. However, the rally allegedly diverted from the approved route and moved south via Dorina Crossing, where the violence broke out.
Police said the mob ignored instructions and attacked officers, injuring five policemen, including the DC’s guard, whose condition remains critical. So far, six separate cases have been registered in connection with the incident, and further arrests are likely as the probe continues.
