8 members of a family killed after massive fire burns down house in Indore

A devastating fire triggered during electric vehicle charging killed eight people and injured four others in Indore early Wednesday morning. The blaze erupted between 3:30 and 4:00 a.m. in a three-storey house in Greater Brijeshwari Colony near Bengali Square after a short circuit caused an electric car to catch fire. The flames quickly spread from the vehicle to the building, trapping residents inside.

Among those killed were polymer businessman Manoj Pugalia and his daughter-in-law Simran. Several victims were relatives who had recently arrived from Kishanganj in Bihar for medical treatment. According to local accounts, some members of the visiting family had come to Indore for surgery related to cancer treatment and were staying at the house when the incident occurred.

Police said the fire intensified after it reached gas cylinders stored inside the building. More than ten cylinders reportedly exploded one after another, shaking the surrounding area and causing part of the structure to collapse. Flammable chemicals kept in the house further worsened the blaze, allowing the fire to spread rapidly through the building. Investigators also found that the house had electronic door locks that failed to open after the power supply was cut during the fire, leaving people trapped inside. Rescue teams had to break down the doors to enter the building. Firefighters eventually brought the flames under control after a prolonged effort. Authorities are now examining the cause of the explosion at the EV charging point and have ordered further investigation to prevent similar incidents.
