Jr Doctors announce 'hunger strike' from today, says demands not met
Eight patients reportedly died due to a lack of oxygen at a government hospital in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. According to reports, the family members of the deceased cited the hospital management as the reason for the lack of oxygen.
Enraged by the alleged medical negligence, the participants looted hospital property and staged a demonstration against the hospital management.
Hospital management responded to these claims by stating that no patient had died from lack of oxygen, only from an underlying illness. They said there is enough oxygen available throughout the facility.
Six of the eight patients were reportedly admitted to the hospital intensive care unit (MICU).
The Superintendent of the State General Hospital intervened and opened a full investigation into the circumstances. The superintendent submitted a thorough report to the district collector as part of the investigation.
In his report, the superintendent refuted any suggestion that a lack of oxygen led to the deaths. The investigation identified various health factors as causes of patient death.
