A truck carrying eight tons of ripe Himsagar mangoes went missing along with its driver and two helpers while en route to Bihar. The truck was hired by mango traders from Banki Bazaar under Matia police station in Uttar 24 Parganas. The consignment was dispatched on Sunday night, and the driver and helpers were given ₹25,000 in cash as travel expenses.
The truck was scheduled to arrive at Bethuabazar market in Bihar by Monday evening. However, the mango traders found that the truck did not reach the destination. Attempts to contact the driver and the two helpers failed as their mobile phones were switched off, and no information about the truck’s location was available.
Following the disappearance, the traders lodged a complaint with Matia police station against the truck owner and driver. The police have started an investigation into the case to determine the circumstances behind the truck and personnel going missing. Local sources confirmed that the police are actively probing the incident.
Mango trader Murtaza Mollah stated, “We contacted traders in Bihar and sent eight tons of ripe Himsagar mangoes in a truck. We gave ₹25,000 cash to the driver and two helpers for travel expenses, but the three did not take the truck to Bihar. Their phones are switched off.”
The missing truck and its load of mangoes have caused concern among the traders, who had assured farmers that payments for the mangoes would be made on Monday night. Police continue to seek information to trace the missing truck and individuals involved.
