Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
In a horrifying accident that has sent shockwaves through the community, an eight-year-old boy was killed at Kharagpur Railway Station on Tuesday. The tragic incident occurred when a massive iron beam, part of the ongoing "Amrit Bharat" project, suddenly fell on the child, crushing him to death on the spot. The death has raised serious questions about safety protocols at railway construction sites.
According to the railway police, the deceased child lived within the station premises with his father. At the time of the devastating accident, his father was away at work. Upon receiving the news of his son's death, the father was reportedly left in a state of shock and grief, struggling to come to terms with the unimaginable loss.
The incident took place between platforms five and six of the Kharagpur station, where construction work for the Amrit Bharat project has been underway for several months. A giant iron beam, intended for this work, had been left standing on the platform. The boy was reportedly playing near the beam when it unexpectedly toppled over, leading to the fatal outcome.
Following the accident, railway police who were present at the scene immediately rushed the child to the Kharagpur Sub-Divisional Hospital. However, the doctors at the hospital were unable to save him and declared him dead upon arrival. The swift response, unfortunately, could not change the tragic outcome.
The railway police have registered a case of unnatural death and have launched a thorough investigation into the matter. S.R.P. Devshree Sanyal of the Kharagpur Division Railway Police described the incident as "extremely poignant" and assured that no stone would be left unturned in the inquiry.
