Vandalism in Howrah over controversial painting during Durga Puja; 30 arrested
In a shocking incident in Bihar's Nawada district, a Dalit settlement was set on fire by miscreants over an ongoing land dispute. The incident occurred in Krishna Nagar Dalit settlement, located near Nanaura in the Mufassil police station area. According to the villagers, around 80 houses were reduced to ashes during the attack. However, local authorities have reported a lower figure, stating that around 20 houses were affected by the fire, and fortunately, no fatalities have been recorded.
The dispute over land ownership between two parties in the village has been brewing for some time. On Wednesday evening, tensions boiled over when the miscreants attacked the Dalit families, allegedly beating them and firing shots into the air before setting the houses ablaze. Villagers reported the attack was sudden and brutal, leaving them with little time to protect their belongings.
Authorities responded quickly to the scene, with fire brigades being dispatched to control the flames. Superintendent of Police Abhinav Dhiman addressed the media, confirming that initial reports exaggerated the number of houses affected. "As per our overnight survey, we have identified about 21 houses that were burnt. The situation is still being monitored, and we are conducting further surveys to gather more details," said the SP.
There were also claims of aerial firing by the miscreants, but the police have not yet found any evidence to support this. "We have not recovered any shells from the area, but our team is still conducting a thorough investigation," the SP added. The police have since arrested 10 individuals in connection with the attack, including the main accused, and they continue to search for others involved.
