9 Bangladeshis arrested in Siliguri for illegal immigration; House owner detained for providing shelter

Nine Bangladeshis, including two minors, were arrested by the Siliguri Metropolitan Police on Wednesday night for illegally entering India. The arrests were made following a raid at a rented house in the Fakdaibadi area, located near the Eastern Bypass. According to police sources, the Bangladeshis had been residing in the house for nearly a month after entering India through the Islampur region, which borders Bangladesh.

The individuals arrested include Jatin Chandra Roy (56), Baul Rani (54), Balu Chandra Roy (40), Gulabi Rani (30), Jharna Rani (34), Sanjeev Roy (19), and Nirmal Majumdar (60). Upon questioning, it was revealed that they had entered India illegally without passports or visas. Authorities were alerted to their presence through intelligence gathered by the police, prompting the raid at the house where they were staying.

In addition to the arrests, the owner of the rented house was also detained for allegedly providing shelter to the illegal immigrants. The police have confirmed that the individuals had been living in the house without proper documentation. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities focusing on identifying the networks behind the illegal immigration. Further legal actions are expected as the authorities continue their probe.
