Congress complaint leads to EC directive: "BJP's video targeting muslims to be removed"
Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav has officially announced his candidacy from the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh, setting the stage for a high-stakes electoral battle. The SP confirmed on Wednesday that Yadav will be filing his nomination at 12 pm on Thursday, marking a significant development in the ongoing Lok Sabha election.
The Kannauj seat is slated for voting in the fourth phase of the election on May 13, with the results set to be declared on June 4. Speculations had been rife regarding Yadav's potential candidacy from the constituency, especially after the party initially declared Tej Pratap Yadav, nephew of Lalu Prasad Yadav, as its candidate. With Akhilesh Yadav's entry into the fray, the electoral contest in Kannauj is expected to intensify further.
Addressing the media earlier in the day, Akhilesh Yadav hinted at his candidacy, stating, "See, when there are nominations, you will get to know. Maybe you will get to know before nominations also." He emphasized the significance of securing a historic victory from the seat and expressed confidence in the INDIA bloc's ability to defeat the NDA in the elections. Akhilesh Yadav has a storied history with the Kannauj constituency, having won the seat multiple times in the past, and his decision to contest once again reflects the SP's determination to reclaim its political stronghold.
