BJP's Kalyan Choubey withdraws, clears way for Maniktala assembly bypoll
The Calcutta High Court has granted permission for a Ram Navami procession to proceed through GT Road, based on an application filed by Vishwa Hindu Parishad. The court's ruling allows for a procession of up to 200 devotees from Shivpur Kazipara to Howrah Maidan via GT Road on April 17, covering areas under Shibpur and Howrah police stations.
Indradeo Dubey, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad Howrah district president, confirmed the court's decision, specifying that any additional participants beyond the permitted 200 would be redirected to march through Forshore Road under police supervision.
This decision follows previous instances of disorder during Ram Navami processions in the Shivpur area, prompting the Calcutta High Court to assign the investigation of past disturbances to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
