In a concerning incident preceding the first phase of voting in Cooch Behar, Alipurduar, and Jalpaiguri Lok Sabha constituencies, a Central Force jawan, 42-year-old Nilesh Kumar Neelu, passed away under suspicious circumstances.
Neelu reportedly began bleeding from his nose and mouth on Thursday night, and despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead upon arrival. Serving as the in-charge of the Quick Response Team (QRT) at Baishguri High School in Mathabhanga, Neelu hailed from Nawada district in Bihar.
The Election Commission has been notified of the incident, and local authorities have initiated an investigation.
