In a significant move, the Congress party has removed Sanjay Nirupam from its list of star campaigners in Maharashtra, citing his recent remarks against the party. Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole announced the decision, stating, "The way he has been making remarks, it seems he has taken a contract to speak against the party. Action will be taken against him in a day or two. No notice will be sent to him."

Responding to the development, Sanjay Nirupam took a jibe at the Congress and indicated that he would reveal his future plans tomorrow. In a post on X, he said, "Congress should not waste its energy and stationery on me and instead use whatever little is left in saving the party. It is anyways going through a huge economic crisis. My one-week deadline ends today and I will make an announcement tomorrow."

Action against Sanjay Nirupam comes amid reports that he may be on his way out of the party. Nirupam has openly opposed Congress's alliance with Shiv Sena (UBT) in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The former Mumbai Congress chief had said the Congress should not allow itself to be arm-twisted by Uddhav Thackeray-led outfit after Shiv Sena (UBT) unilaterally announced 17 candidates.
