Aadhaar and voter cards recovered from locked Trinamool office in Tangra

A major controversy erupted in Kolkata’s Tangra area after a large number of Aadhaar and voter cards were allegedly recovered from a locked Trinamool Congress office located on Tangra 2nd Lane under the Beleghata Assembly constituency. According to local sources, the office had remained locked since the declaration of the election results. Several residents reportedly broke open the lock and entered the premises, where they discovered stacks of Aadhaar and voter identity cards inside an almirah. The discovery triggered tension in the locality, following which a large police force reached the scene and initiated an investigation into the matter.

Police sources stated that an inquiry is underway to determine how such a significant quantity of identity documents ended up inside the party office. Reports indicate that police personnel are currently identifying the names mentioned on the recovered cards and attempting to contact the concerned individuals. Local residents alleged that identity cards were collected by local Trinamool leaders under the pretext of facilitating access to various government-related services, but were allegedly not returned afterward. Police are also examining these allegations as part of the ongoing investigation.

The incident has drawn attention because a similar recovery of Aadhaar and voter cards had recently been reported from a Trinamool office in the Basanti Devi Colony area of Bidhannagar. In that case, local residents had alleged that identity cards were forcibly taken away to prevent people from casting votes and were later not returned. The latest recovery in Tangra has once again intensified political tension in the state, while police continue their investigation into the source and handling of the recovered documents.
