AAP, Congress fail to reach seat-sharing agreement for Haryana Polls

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress have failed to reach an agreement on seat-sharing for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections, sources revealed. Despite being allies in the INDIA bloc at the national level, both parties are expected to contest the polls separately.

According to insiders, the AAP was seeking to contest at least 10 seats, but Congress was unwilling to offer more than three. Talks had been ongoing, with Congress leader Deepak Babaria stating that the alliance would only happen if it benefited both parties. However, the discussions did not lead to a consensus.

Amid the deadlock, Haryana AAP chief Sushil Gupta announced that the party would release its list of candidates if no decision was reached by the evening. Shortly after, AAP released its first list of 20 candidates, including Haryana vice president Anurag Dhanda for Kalayat and Indu Sharma for Bhiwani.

The Congress has already announced 41 candidates. According to sources, the Congress sub-committee, formed to assess the tricky seats in Haryana’s 90 assembly constituencies, has finalised a list of 49 candidates and sent it to the party leadership.

Assembly elections in Haryana will be held on October 5 and the counting of votes will be undertaken on October 8.
