AAP leader Anokh Mittal injured, wife murdered in brutal robbery near Ludhiana

Lipsi Mittal, wife of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and businessman Anokh Mittal, was murdered in a violent robbery late Saturday night near village Rurka, close to the Sidhwan Canal bridge. The couple was returning home from a dinner in Dehlo when their vehicle was intercepted by five armed robbers. The attackers, wielding sharp-edged weapons, launched a brutal assault, fatally injuring Lipsi Mittal while Anokh Mittal sustained serious wounds.

Police officials stated that the assailants overpowered the couple and looted their belongings, including their car, before fleeing the scene. Anokh Mittal, who attempted to resist the attack, was left critically injured and is currently undergoing treatment at DMC Hospital. Lipsi Mittal was pronounced dead at the scene. "We are investigating the incident from all angles and will take strict action against the perpetrators," said a senior police official.

Anokh Mittal, a well-known businessman, had joined AAP four months ago and was inducted into the party by MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi. His political association had brought him into the public eye, and his involvement in both business and politics had gained attention. Police are examining whether the attack was purely a case of robbery or if there were other motives involved.

In a separate case, Punjab Police arrested two Indian nationals, Sandeep and Pradeep, who were deported from the US on Saturday for their alleged involvement in a 2023 murder case in Rajpura, Patiala. Authorities stated that the two had fled to the US after being declared proclaimed offenders. A team from Patiala police took them into custody as soon as they landed at Amritsar’s Sri Guru Ramdas Airport.

Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, with authorities focusing on identifying the robbers responsible for Lipsi Mittal’s murder and gathering evidence in the Patiala murder case. Police have increased patrolling in the area where the robbery took place, and further developments are expected as the probe progresses.
