AAP releases first list of 11 candidates for Bihar polls; Will contest on all seats solo

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially fired the first shot in the Bihar election battle by releasing its initial list of 11 candidates, staking an ambitious claim to contest all 243 assembly seats independently. The announcement was made on Monday by AAP’s Bihar In-charge Ajesh Yadav and State President Rakesh Yadav at a press conference, making AAP the first party to formally declare its candidates for the upcoming state elections. By finalizing their initial slate even before the major alliances—NDA and INDIA—could iron out their seat-sharing arrangements, the party signals its serious intent to establish a foothold in the politically crucial state.

The party leaders emphasized that AAP will take its campaign to the public based on the "Kejriwal Model," a governance approach that has already been validated and accepted by voters in Delhi and Punjab. They plan to frame the election around core issues plaguing Bihar, particularly migration, unemployment, and inflation. This strategy is designed to appeal directly to the common electorate by focusing on fundamental issues of development, education, and healthcare, rather than the traditional caste and alliance politics of the state.

The timing of the announcement is strategically noteworthy. While the major coalitions, the NDA and the INDIA bloc, continue to struggle with intense internal negotiations over seat allocations—with reports suggesting a final deal is imminent but yet to be announced—AAP has preempted them. This move positions AAP as a decisive and focused alternative, aiming to capitalize on any perceived delays or dissatisfaction arising from the power-sharing talks within the established alliances.

The 11 candidates named in the first list are spread across several key districts, including both central and peripheral regions of Bihar. Notable candidates include Dr. Meera Singh from Begusarai, Yogi Chaupal from Kusheshwarsthan (Darbhanga), and Dr. Pankaj Kumar from Bankipur (Patna). The list also features a mix of fresh faces and experienced individuals, such as former Captain Dharmaraj Singh from Buxar, indicating a conscious effort by the party to field candidates with diverse backgrounds.

For a party largely confined to Delhi and Punjab, contesting all 243 seats in Bihar is a massive undertaking that carries significant risk but potentially high reward. It reflects the party’s aspiration to transcend its regional identity and emerge as a truly national political force. The election will serve as a crucial test of whether the "Delhi Model" of governance—focused on infrastructure, utility services, and freebies—can resonate with the rural and socio-politically complex landscape of Bihar.
