AAP removes Raghav Chadha as Rajya Sabha deputy leader, appoints Ashok Mittal: Sources

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has removed Raghav Chadha from the post of deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, replacing him with Punjab MP Ashok Mittal. The party has formally communicated the decision to the Rajya Sabha secretariat, also indicating that Chadha should no longer be allotted time to speak in the House, a move that has triggered speculation about internal differences.

The leadership change comes at a time when Chadha has remained largely silent on key political developments involving the party and its top leadership. His absence from major events and lack of public response to significant milestones, including legal relief to senior party leaders, has raised questions about his current role and standing within the party.

Despite the growing buzz, Ashok Mittal dismissed suggestions of any rift, describing the development as a routine organisational change. He stated that the party believes in giving opportunities to different leaders, maintaining that there is no internal discord behind the decision.

However, Chadha’s recent political disengagement has been under scrutiny for some time. He had earlier cited medical reasons for limited participation during crucial moments, and his continued absence from press conferences, public rallies, and party campaigns has only intensified speculation in political circles.

Raghav Chadha, once considered a close aide of Arvind Kejriwal and a prominent face of the party, has held several key roles since AAP’s inception. His removal from a significant parliamentary position marks a notable shift, even as the party maintains that the decision is part of routine leadership rotation.
