Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has expressed profound shock and anguish following the tragic explosion near Delhi's Red Fort, which has reportedly resulted in several fatalities and injuries. Taking to social media, Banerjee extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and offered prayers for the swift recovery of those injured.
Banerjee stated that the Delhi Police, which operates directly under the Union Home Ministry, bears the primary responsibility for maintaining law and order and ensuring the security of the region. "How, then are such grave lapses in security being allowed to occur?" he asked.
The TMC leader further escalated his critique by linking the explosion to a significant security incident reported just a day prior. He noted the recovery of nearly 350 kg of explosives and an assault rifle from Faridabad in neighbouring Haryana. He claimed that this raises "alarming questions about internal security and the evident decline in vigilance."
Stressing the gravity of the situation, Mr. Banerjee issued a clear demand for accountability and transparency. He called for an "impartial, time-bound investigation" to thoroughly probe the matter. To ensure the integrity of the inquiry, he suggested that the probe should be conducted by a Special Investigation Team (SIT).
He added that the investigation should ideally be conducted "under court supervision if necessary." The stated goal of this SIT probe is to quickly uncover the full truth behind the explosion and ensure that all individuals found responsible are held fully accountable for the lapse and the resulting tragedy.
