WPL: RCB chase down highest ever total, beat GG by 6 wickets
Abhishek Banerjee, the Member of Parliament for Diamond Harbour, launched the healthcare initiative ‘Sebaashray’ in South 24 Parganas, aiming to provide comprehensive medical services to the population in this region. The initiative focuses on addressing healthcare gaps, especially in rural and underserved areas, by offering free diagnostic tests, medical treatments, and referrals to specialized care. It aims to deliver accessible healthcare to those who otherwise lack proper medical resources and cannot afford private healthcare services.
On January 22, the initiative conducted 47 health camps across Bishnupur, serving a total of 8,529 people. The services provided included diagnostic tests for 6,737 patients, free medicines for 7,515 individuals, and referrals for 21 serious cases requiring advanced medical treatment. The program is designed to make healthcare services available at no cost to the people of South 24 Parganas, ensuring that individuals from economically disadvantaged backgrounds have access to the necessary medical care.
The ‘Sebaashray’ program is supported by a network of local healthcare professionals and volunteers. The health camps offer various services, including general health check-ups, diagnostic tests for common diseases, distribution of free medicines, and referrals to hospitals for more complex cases. The initiative has set up a system to ensure follow-up care for patients who require further treatment after their initial visits to the camps.
Abhishek Banerjee has been personally overseeing the operation of the initiative, ensuring that healthcare services are effectively provided to those in need. For instance, he took personal responsibility for the treatment of a critically ill child, Kriti Manna, ensuring that she received proper medical care. Similarly, he arranged for the treatment of 9-year-old Altaf Hossain Gharami, who was also in need of immediate care. These individual cases illustrate the initiative’s commitment to providing timely, hands-on assistance to vulnerable patients.
The ‘Sebaashray’ initiative has become a critical component of local healthcare in South 24 Parganas, as it addresses the chronic issues within India’s healthcare system. The central government has faced ongoing criticism for the inadequate healthcare infrastructure, high medical costs, and insufficient medical staff in rural areas. By providing free, immediate healthcare services through a network of local camps, ‘Sebaashray’ aims to mitigate these challenges and ensure that residents of South 24 Parganas receive the medical attention they need. The program is expected to expand further, with additional health camps planned across the district and other parts of South 24 Parganas.
