The Indian Army has yet to give permission for Trinamool leader Abhishek Banerjee's upcoming public meeting at Shaheed Minar Maidan in Kolkata, causing doubts about the event. Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the president of Trinamool Yuva and a member of parliament for the Trinamool Congress, is scheduled to be the main speaker at the public meeting organized by Trinamool Chhatra Parishad on March 29.
The Shaheed Minar Maidan falls under the jurisdiction of the Indian Army, which means that permission from the Army is required for any event to be held there. While the Trinamool Congress has submitted a written application for permission, they have not yet received it as of Thursday night.
Trinamool Students Council President Trinankur Bhattacharya has stated that there are already protests and agitations by several organizations in the area where Abhishek Banerjee's public meeting is supposed to be held. He has requested the agitators to postpone their sit-in on the day of the meeting. However, if permission is not obtained from the Army in time, the program may have to be postponed.
It should be noted that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) organized the "Netaji Lo Pranaam" program on the same ground on January 23, which was attended by Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat on the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.
