BJP gherao 'New TMC' MLA Sandipan Saha's house in Entally, protest over 'cut money'
Widespread tension broke out in Bankura on Tuesday when ABVP activists staged a protest in front of the District Magistrate’s office demanding the immediate commencement of student admissions in all state colleges stalled due to OBC reservation complexities. The protesters also called for the resumption of counseling processes in engineering and medical colleges and the holding of student union elections across the state. The protest was organized despite heavy rainfall in the area.
ABVP members marched towards the District Magistrate’s office, but police set up barricades near the IG Office turn to prevent their advance. Protesters sat on the road to express their dissent, leading to a scuffle between the police and activists. The ABVP alleged, “Police lathicharged our peaceful protest,” while the police denied using force and stated that the scuffle occurred when protesters tried to break barricades and move towards the office.
In total, eight protesters were detained by the police in connection with the incident. The protest created widespread tension in the district, drawing attention to delays in college admissions and student union elections due to OBC reservation-related administrative issues. Authorities have urged calm while reviewing the situation, and the event has become a focal point of discussion among local political and educational circles.
