AC failure heats up Bengal Assembly, MLAs walk out amid rising temperatures

The West Bengal Assembly turned into a furnace on Tuesday afternoon — not from political firepower, but due to a sudden breakdown of the air conditioning system. The unexpected technical snag occurred right in the middle of Opposition Leader Shubhendu Adhikari’s statement, leaving MLAs visibly uncomfortable.

With the chamber growing increasingly hot and humid, several members exited the House unable to cope with the heat. Despite ongoing proceedings, the rising temperature inside the hall became difficult to endure.

In an unusual move, authorities opened all 15 gates of the Assembly — a step not taken in years — to facilitate ventilation. The sight of doors flung open and hand fans in use underscored the irony of a heated debate taking place amid actual soaring heat.

Maintenance teams were later seen working on restoring the system. However, no official explanation has yet been provided for the malfunction.
