A violent clash over a land dispute in the Baruipur area has left a youth critically injured after he was allegedly attacked with acid, stabbed with sharp weapons and shot at. The incident occurred on Saturday night in the Yogibattala area under Baruipur police station. The injured youth, identified as Toton Khan, is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition at Chittaranjan Hospital in Kolkata. Police have arrested six people in connection with the attack.
According to local sources, Toton Khan had been involved in a long-standing land dispute with his grandfather Momtaz Khan. Tensions between the families had reportedly escalated in recent days, with allegations of earlier assaults on Toton and his relatives. The situation reportedly worsened on the morning of Eid when members of Momtaz Khan’s family allegedly assaulted Toton and his family. Later that night, the conflict turned violent when six people, including Momtaz Khan’s wife Baby Khan, son-in-law Vicky Ghosh and a neighbor identified as Yerli Khan, allegedly attacked Toton with sharp weapons and acid. Locals later found him lying in a blood-soaked condition near his home and rushed him to Baruipur Sub-Divisional Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Chittaranjan Hospital in Kolkata for advanced treatment.
After the incident, the accused reportedly attempted to hide in the village but were detained by local residents. A large police force reached the spot after receiving information. When police tried to take the accused to the station, a section of villagers allegedly blocked them, leading to tension in the area. Police resorted to lathicharge to control the situation and later arrested the accused. A complaint has been filed by Toton Khan’s family and an investigation into the incident is underway.
