Adani row: Congress to stage nationwide protest on February 6

Congress general secretary KC Venugopal on Thursday said the party would stage nationwide protests on February 6 in front of Life Insurance Corporation offices and State Bank of India branches in all districts. Speaking to a report, Venugopal said, “The government at the center is using common people's money to support its closest friends. The Congress party has decided to hold a nationwide agitation across the country's districts in front of LIC and SBI offices on Monday.

The opposition takes this argument that the exposure of LIC and public sector banks like SBI to the Adani Group has significant implications for the savings of the middle class. Opposition leaders said they expected the government to brush it off and not accede to their demand, but would try to use the stage of Parliament to corner Modi. They also sought a debate and joint committee inquiry into the rout of Adani Group company shares triggered by fraud allegations during the Parliament session today, forcing the adjournment of proceedings in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha before lunch. meeting.

The Joint Opposition called the Center over the Hindenburg report against the Adani Enterprises stock crash "Maha ghotala (scam) in Amrit Kaal" and questioned the government's "silence" on the issue. Addressing a joint press conference at Vijay Chowk in the state capital after the adjournment of both houses till 2 pm, the opposition leaders also criticized the government for refusing to suspend business notices to discuss the matter.

Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge led the attack on the Center and demanded a CJI-supervised probe into the matter or setting up a joint parliamentary committee. "This should be investigated either by a joint parliamentary committee or a team under the supervision of the Supreme Court CJI," Kharge said. Several opposition MPs have suspended business notifications to the relevant chambers of parliament on the matter.

However, both houses were adjourned soon after the session began at 2pm. Leaders who have given announcements in their respective houses include Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the CPI(M) in the Rajya Sabha, MP Elamaram Kareem, Shiv Sena MP (Uddhav Thackeray faction) Priyanka Chaturvedi, CPI Rajya Sabha MP Binoy Viswam, Bharat Rashtra Samithi Lok Sabha MP Nama Nageswara Rao, BRS Rajya Sabha MP K Keshava Rao, Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh among others.

The first part of the session will end on February 13. Parliament will reconvene on March 12 for the second part of the budget session, which ends on April 6.
