On the auspicious day of Ekadashi during Durga Puja festivities, Adhir Ranjan Chaudhary, State Congress President and Member of Parliament, was spotted performing daring stunts on a motorcycle without wearing a helmet. Chaudhary, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, grabbed attention as he executed bike tricks while riding a Bullet motorcycle. The incident has sparked questions and concerns about the safety of public figures and the need to follow road safety regulations.
With the police and local administration vigilant about road safety and the prevention of accidents, some observers found Chaudhary's actions contradictory to the safety messages being emphasized during the festive season. Riding without a helmet and performing stunts on a public road are not only risky but set a precedent that might be emulated by others.
The reason for Chaudhary's unconventional bike ride was soon revealed. He had taken to the streets of Baharampur before dawn to inaugurate a new bypass road on National Highway No. 34. The Baharampur bypass had been under construction for a considerable period, with one lane recently completed. In an effort to present a Puja gift to the people of Baharampur and improve travel convenience between North and South Bengal, a newly constructed lane was opened on the day of Chaudhary's ride. The inauguration of this road is expected to reduce travel time and distance between the two regions, offering a more efficient and convenient route for commuters. Chaudhary officially opened the road in the presence of highway officials, following which he embarked on an early morning solo inspection ride around 6:30 AM.
