Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury faced suspension from the Lok Sabha on Thursday for causing disruptions in the parliamentary proceedings. BJP leader Pralhad Joshi tabled a resolution to this effect, which garnered acceptance within the Parliament on the same day. Chowdhury's suspension will persist until the Privileges Committee concludes its investigation and submits a report on his actions.
Earlier in the day Adhir was highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who took a pointed dig at him. During a session, he pondered aloud whether Chowdhury's absence from the no-confidence motion debate was orchestrated by a phone call originating from Kolkata as part to I.N.D.I.A alliance's stage sharing with Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool.
