ED files 100-page chargesheet against Sona Pappu; 200 witnesses to testify
The Security Control Organization (SCO) of the Kolkata Police has arrested an Afghan national identified as Jamil Khan from the Bhawanipur area in South Kolkata for staying illegally in the country for five years. According to official reports, Khan arrived in Kolkata in February 2021 on a temporary three-month tourist visa. Although his official visa expired in May 2021, he evaded immigration authorities by living clandestinely alongside other legally residing Afghan nationals within the metropolitan city.
During his illegal stay, Khan managed to establish a local business using forged Indian credentials. Law enforcement agencies revealed that the accused procured a fraudulent local identification card by presenting false documentation regarding his guardians. Using this forged primary identity proof as a basis, he subsequently secured a fake driving license to blend into the local ecosystem, despite holding a valid Afghan passport.
The fraudulent activities came to light during a routine passport and visa verification drive conducted by the intelligence branch of the Kolkata Police. SCO officials summoned Khan for detailed questioning after noticing inconsistencies in his residency paperwork, which led to a confession regarding his five-year illegal stay. A formal complaint was subsequently lodged at the Bhabanipur police station, leading to his arrest. The administration is currently interrogating the suspect to determine if more foreign nationals are operating with similar forged networks in the city.
