Bollywood veteran Jackie Shroff has filed a suit in the Delhi High Court to safeguard his personality and publicity rights, following in the footsteps of actors Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor. The suit states instances where entities have utilized Jackie's name, photographs, voice, and even his nickname, Bhidu, without his authorization.
The actor's legal action comes as a response to the unauthorized commercial exploitation of his identity, with various entities using his name and photos for their own purposes without seeking his consent.
During the hearing on Tuesday, Justice Sanjeev Narula issued summons to the defendant entities named in the suit. Jackie's legal representative, advocate Pravin Anand, apprised the court of the misuse of the actor's images in offensive memes and the misappropriation of his voice in certain instances.
In his plea, Jackie Shroff seeks protection not only for his given name but also for his popular monikers, including Jackie, Jaggu Dada, and Bhidu, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding his identity from unauthorized exploitation.
