Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
A fresh FIR has been lodged against Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee at Bhowanipore Police Station over allegations of making provocative remarks and spreading hatred through social media. The complaint was filed by Bhabanipur resident Arnab Kanti Das, who alleged that the statements could disturb communal harmony and amounted to misuse of political influence. Copies of the social media post cited in the complaint were also submitted to the police.
According to the complaint, the FIR is linked to a post made by Abhishek Banerjee on X on May 2. In the post, he wrote: “Even if you are born ten times, your anti-Bengal Gujarati gang will not be able to damage even a fraction of my Diamond Harbour model.” The complainant alleged that the remarks were inflammatory and divisive, prompting the filing of the case at Bhowanipore Police Station.
This is not the first FIR filed against the Trinamool Congress MP in recent weeks. Earlier, another complaint had been lodged at Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station accusing him of making provocative remarks during election campaigning and allegedly threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah. That case invoked six sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with provisions of the Representation of the People Act.
Separately, another complaint was filed on Tuesday against former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station. Lawyer Rinky Singh Chatterjee alleged that Mamata Banerjee made objectionable remarks against a particular community during an Eid programme in 2025, including allegedly referring to a religion as “dirty.” Police registered the FIR based on the allegations mentioned in the complaint.
