After train cancelation, TMC workers to roll into Delhi for MGNREGA protest in a sea of buses

In a significant move, a large contingent of TMC workers, numbering between ,2,500 to 3,000 departed for Delhi on Saturday to stage a protest against the Central government.

The decision came following an announcement by Abhishek Banerjee, who instructed the hiring of 50 buses to facilitate the workers' journey to the capital. The move is in response to the Center's withholding of funds earmarked for the (MGNREGA) Act, resulting in unpaid wages for these laborers who rely on the 100-day employment guarantee scheme.

The buses, dispatched late Friday night, are expected to leave from Dharmatalla at approximately 9:00 am, as per the statement issued by the TMC. Adequate provisions have been made to ensure the comfort and sustenance of the protesting workers during their journey.

Abhishek Banerjee had initially sought to arrange a special train for the movement, with the launch date coinciding with the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2. However, despite depositing the required fare with the Railways, the allocation of the train fell through, prompting the party to make alternative arrangements in the form of buses.

The protest by Trinamool Congress workers highlights the pressing issue of MGNREGA funds being withheld by the Central government, leaving thousands of laborers without their rightful wages. As tensions escalate, the workers' journey to Delhi serves as a strong statement of their grievances and their determination to seek justice and resolution from the Center.
