BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul has questioned the West Bengal government’s handling of the Handicrafts Fair after a fire broke out just two days after its inauguration by a state minister. She raised concerns over the fair’s safety measures, pointing out that food stalls were placed next to handicraft stalls, increasing fire risks. Paul alleged that no proper fire safety arrangements were in place despite the presence of flammable materials. "The government must answer how such a lapse was allowed to happen," she stated, demanding accountability from the administration.
The incident has sparked concerns among artisans and traders, many of whom suffered financial losses due to the fire. Paul criticized the state government’s approach to public event management, stating that negligence led to the mishap.
