Ritabrata Banerjee faces “Thief, Thief” slogans and abuse during Baruipur victim family visit
Agnimitra Pal - Minister of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs of West Bengal - visited the family of the 12-year-old minor girl who was allegedly raped and murdered in Baruipur. After meeting the grieving family, Agnimitra Pal assured that the culrprits will face exemplary punishment. She stated that the family is satisfied with the government’s swift action and has full faith in Bengal CM Shuvendu Adhikari.
On Adhikari's instructions, a six-member Special Investigation Team was formed and three accused, including main suspect Anand Sardar, were arrested within hours of the incident. The girl’s body was recovered from a pond, triggering massive protests and a subsequent mob lynching in which one person died. Agnimitra Pal reiterated that the government stands firmly with the family and will seek capital punishment for the accused.
In addition to this, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of the alleged rape and murder of the minor girl in Baruipur ,along with the subsequent mob protests, violence and lynching in the area. Expressing grave concern, the NCW has sought a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR) from the West Bengal DGP within seven days. The commission has asked for specifics on FIR registration under BNS and POCSO Act, progress of investigation, and arrests made in the rape-murder case.
