Affidavit disclosures of BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul from Asansol South indicate significant changes in her financial profile and legal records over the years, including a sharp decline in income after assuming office. Data from her filings show that while her earnings dropped notably post-2021, her assets and number of cases have seen considerable changes.
According to the affidavits, her total income between 2015–16 and 2019–20 stood at ₹81.49 lakh, with an average annual income of ₹16.29 lakh before becoming an MLA. However, between 2020–21 and 2024–25, her total income reduced to ₹18.65 lakh, bringing the average annual income down to ₹3.73 lakh. The figures indicate a substantial fall in declared earnings after entering public office.
In contrast, her movable assets have recorded a sharp increase over the same period. From ₹1.10 crore in 2021, her movable assets rose to ₹2.56 crore in 2026, largely attributed to the increased valuation of approximately 830 grams of gold jewellery. Her immovable assets, however, have remained nearly unchanged at around ₹1.28 crore. Meanwhile, liabilities have declined from ₹19.71 lakh in 2021 to about ₹12.01 lakh in 2026.
The affidavits also reflect changes in other disclosures. While her 2021 filing included details of her husband’s income, the 2026 affidavit does not mention it. Additionally, the number of criminal cases registered against her has risen significantly, from two cases in 2021 to 18 in 2026, spanning multiple locations including Asansol, Kharagpur, Agra, Raniganj, Bhabanipur and Birbhum, adding a new dimension to her public and political profile.
