The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has called for an immediate ban on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent, hosted by Samay Raina, after podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia made a controversial remark in a recent episode. The comment, deemed highly inappropriate, sparked outrage on social media, leading to multiple complaints. FIRs have been filed against Allahbadia, and authorities are now investigating the matter.
Mumbai Police visited Allahbadia’s residence following complaints, while Guwahati Police registered a case against him and other judges of the show. They have been accused of promoting explicit and offensive content. The backlash has also impacted Allahbadia’s online presence, as he lost over 8,350 followers across his social media accounts in just five days. Despite issuing a public apology, public outrage has not subsided.
AICWA released a statement condemning the remarks and announcing a boycott of India’s Got Latent. “The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) vehemently condemns the reprehensible and offensive remarks made on the YouTube show India’s Got Latent,” the statement read. The association urged actors, filmmakers, and technicians to cut ties with the individuals involved in the show, stating that they would receive “no support from the Indian film industry.”
In its press release, AICWA also outlined four key demands: an immediate and permanent ban on India’s Got Latent to prevent the spread of "toxic ideology," strict legal action against Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia, FIRs against all responsible parties, and the implementation of stricter regulations on digital content. The association stated, “We will not allow any attempts to tarnish our nation’s culture and traditions. Immediate and decisive action is imperative.”
The controversy has drawn reactions from politicians, activists, and public figures, further intensifying calls for government intervention. While Allahbadia has publicly apologized, the future of India’s Got Latent remains uncertain as authorities continue their legal review.
