In response to allegations of a Delhi-based firm manipulating hospitalization bills and swindling ₹3 lakh from patients at AIIMS-Patna, the medical institute has promptly terminated the service contract of the outsourcing agency. The termination decision was made by AIIMS-Patna's executive director-cum-chief executive officer, Dr. Gopal Krushna Pal, just days after the matter was brought to their attention. The fraudulent activities involved tampering with bills using software tools to inflate amounts, affecting over 25 cases with discrepancies ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹6,000 between actual and presented bills.
The lid was lifted on this fraudulent operation when a patient, seeking insurance reimbursement for his mother's hospitalization charges, submitted the bill for verification. The subsequent internal investigation uncovered a pattern of discrepancies in bills dating back to July 2023. The termination of the Delhi firm's contract is part of AIIMS-Patna's decisive response to the scandal, and further actions will be determined based on the findings of an internal committee currently investigating the matter.
