Disruption in metro services between Dumdum and Dakshineswar; normal services resume after 2 hours
All India Kisan Congress (AIKC) Chairman and Punjab Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira strongly denounced the barricading of the Ghaggar flyover on NH-44, obstructing protesting farmers' entry into Delhi.
Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Khaira criticized alleged attacks on farmers, including tear gas shelling, and called for legal guarantees for the minimum support price (MSP) and farm loan waivers. The farmers, demanding a legal assurance for MSP, faced obstacles at the Sambhu border, leading to heightened tensions and protests at state borders.
Khaira highlighted the 2020-21 farmer's protest, emphasizing the loss of nearly 600-700 lives, and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not condemning the violence. He underscored unmet promises by the government regarding MSP, withdrawal of cases against farmers, and compensation.
The AIKC Chairman expressed concern about the government's sincerity in addressing the ongoing farmer's crisis and supported Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's pledge to provide a legal guarantee for MSP if elected to power in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Khaira urged the Centre to allow the peaceful protest led by Kisan Mazdoor Morcha to enter Delhi and allocate a suitable space for their demands to be heard.
