An Air India flight travelling from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi made a precautionary diversion to Shannon Airport in Ireland on Sunday after the crew detected a suspected technical issue mid-flight. The aircraft landed safely and all passengers and crew members onboard were reported to be safe.
The flight, AI102, had taken off from New York and was en route to Delhi when the technical concern was identified. Following standard safety procedures, the crew decided to divert the aircraft to Shannon Airport as a precautionary measure. The aircraft landed safely at around 4:30 am local time.
In a statement, Air India confirmed that the diversion was carried out purely as a safety measure. The airline said the aircraft is currently undergoing detailed technical inspections in accordance with established aviation safety protocols to identify and address the issue.
The airline also said that all passengers and crew members remain safe and are being provided with full assistance. Authorities at Shannon Airport and local agencies are working closely with the airline to ensure necessary arrangements and support for those affected by the diversion.
Air India expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers but emphasised that such precautionary diversions reflect the airline’s commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards during flight operations.
