Air India flight from San Francisco makes emergency landing at Kolkata after engine snag

An Air India flight, AI180, en route from San Francisco to Mumbai via Kolkata, experienced a significant technical malfunction, leading to the disembarkation of all passengers at Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport on Tuesday morning. The Boeing 777-200LR (Worldliner) aircraft had arrived in Kolkata on schedule at 12:45 AM on June 17, with its onward journey to Mumbai slated for 2:00 AM.

However, the takeoff was considerably delayed due to a reported technical fault in the plane's left engine. After several hours, at approximately 5:20 AM, the captain made the decision to deplane all passengers, citing flight safety as the primary concern. This unexpected halt left passengers stranded at the Kolkata airport.

The airline is now expected to make arrangements for the affected passengers to continue their journey to Mumbai, while the aircraft undergoes necessary repairs and safety inspections. The incident underscores the critical importance of pre-flight checks and the emphasis on passenger safety in aviation operations.
