In Aligarh district, a 55-year-old woman and her 22-year-old adopted daughter, were allegedly beaten to death by her in-laws in the midst of a property dispute. This horrifying incident occurred just one week after the demise of the woman's husband. The double murder unfolded at Kaimthal, within the jurisdiction of the Gonda police, during the observance of Mukesh Devi's husband's 'terahvin' ritual—a ceremony conducted on the 13th day of mourning—held at her in-laws' residence.
Mukesh Devi's husband, Surender Singh, had died of a heart attack in Delhi on August 31. During the 'terahvin,' Mukesh Devi was subjected to a violent assault by her brother-in-law and others, using a stick and heavy objects. When her daughter Priyanka attempted to intervene and protect her mother, she too was mercilessly attacked. Both victims sustained severe head injuries and were declared dead upon arrival at a nearby hospital, as reported by the police.
In response to a complaint filed by the woman's brother, Bhola Singh, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against seven individuals accused in the case. The named individuals include Dharmveer Singh, Mona Singh, Dubla Singh, Ramesh Singh, Neeraj Singh, Sonu Singh, and Rakesh Singh. They are facing charges under IPC sections 302 for murder and 147 for rioting. SP (Aligarh rural) Palash Bansal said, "Five police teams have been formed to arrest the accused. We are investigating the matter and action will be taken soon."
