PM will offer Anjali to Maa Durga this Ashtami in Kolkata, receives multiple invitations
Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami was acquitted on Wednesday in a cheque fraud case filed by his estranged wife Hasin Jahan. The case, related to an alleged cheque fraud of ₹1 lakh, had been filed in 2018. Shami appeared before the Alipore Court in Kolkata, where the court cleared him of all charges in the matter.
Speaking to reporters after the hearing, Shami said he was confident that the verdict would go in his favour because he had “done nothing wrong.” He also stated that he had paid everything he was required to pay. Referring to missing his team’s previous IPL match, the cricketer said unforeseen situations could arise both on and off the field and that he always tried to manage everything properly. Shami is currently playing for Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.
The case was one among several legal disputes filed earlier by Hasin Jahan against Shami and members of his family under various non-bailable sections. Hasin currently resides at Shami’s Kolkata residence and frequently travels between Delhi and Kolkata for their daughter’s education. Shami, meanwhile, mostly stays in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, when not engaged in cricket tournaments and professional commitments.
Hasin Jahan had also approached the Supreme Court of India seeking an increase in maintenance payments. Following her plea, notices were reportedly issued to both Mohammed Shami and the West Bengal government. Under an earlier order of the Calcutta High Court, Shami currently pays ₹2.5 lakh per month towards their daughter’s expenses and ₹1.5 lakh towards Hasin Jahan’s maintenance. During the hearing, the Supreme Court reportedly observed whether ₹4 lakh per month was insufficient for the household expenses of the mother and daughter.
