Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized Rahul Gandhi's recent "panauti" comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, labeling it as "below the belt." Shah, addressing the media, expressed confidence that voters would respond fittingly to such language in the upcoming assembly elections.
The use of the term "panauti," a Hindi slang implying someone bringing bad luck, was employed by Rahul Gandhi during a campaign speech in Rajasthan. The comment was made in reference to Prime Minister Modi's presence at the World Cup cricket final, which India lost to Australia after a series of consecutive wins.
Responding to a query during a press meet, Amit Shah emphasized that whenever derogatory language has been directed at the Prime Minister, voters across various states have responded resolutely. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had previously criticized Rahul Gandhi's remarks as "despicably poor," accusing him of continuing the Congress tradition of using abusive names for the Prime Minister.
